Current Information:Age-26 Born-Camberwell 4th Royal Fusiliers, 9 Brigade, 3rd Division went into the line near Sanctuary Wood in the Ypres salient on the night of 19th-20th August, 1915 and remained there for over a week. At 4pm on 28th August, 1915, a large howitzer opened up on the German trenches opposite their position and in the inevitable retaliation that followed Y Company were hit by German shells which killed four men and wounded another five. |
